Social life blossomed in this, the most lavishly appointed room in the Castle. The family recieved guest here, and here they pursued the arts and entertained. Music filled the room, Jessie on the piano and guitar, Effie on the banjo, perhaps accompanying the songs of their niece Elizabeth harvey. Other arts were not neglected, as drawing and painting were had frequent “at Hoes” These were afternoon affairs usually, with friends notified in advance that she as “ at home” and therefore receiving visitors.
